Matt Wayne

Dr. Matt Wayne is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in Hayward Unified School District. Dr. Wayne strives daily to support schools in creating challenging, thoughtful and joyous learning experiences for children. This has been his focus throughout his career in education - as a middle school language arts teacher in New York; as vice-principal, then principal of a large, Title 1 school in San Pablo, California; as an Executive Director for elementary schools in San Francisco. In every Position, Dr. Wayne brings a student and school centered approach to improving teaching and learning.
He has worked with A.L.L. since 2004, facilitating beginning and advanced reading and writing workshop institutes in San Diego and in New York City. He has also contributed to developing curriculum for A.L.L.
Dr. Wayne earned an undergraduate degree in Rhetoric and his doctorate in Educational Leadership from UC Berkeley. He currently is a lecturer in the Leadership for Educational Equity Program at UC Berkeley. Dr. Wayne also earned a Masters of Arts in English Education and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
