The real world is rich, fascinating, and compelling - how do we empower our students to see it that way?

As teachers we nurture students’ curiosity and encourage them to explore the world through reading and writing. To support this endeavor, Accelerated Literacy Learning is presenting a four-day summer Writers/ Readers Summer Institute at River Oaks Elementary School, Houston.

Writers Workshop includes:

• Planning, implementing and launching Writing Workshop.
• Ways to construct mini lessons.
• Methods to confer with students about their writing.
• Tools for assessing student’s work.
• Ideas for nourishing your own writing life in order to become a better teacher of writing.
• Aligning Writers Workshop with IBPYP

Readers Workshop includes:

• Using Assessment as a Driving Force in Instruction
• Interactive Read-aloud
• Guided Reading
• Independent reading to partnerships

Each day will be structured to include grade level content sessions focused on the introduction to
Writers Workshop, as well as provide an opportunity for participants to work
on their own piece of writing.

• Conferring with Readers
